2.3

So, I decided that once Reives turned 2, that I would update on him every 3 months, instead of every month. Well, I am a month behind. So, here is a post about Reives at 2 years and 3/4 months :)

Reives is hilarious! We just love him to pieces. When he was a baby, he seemed so shy and serious, so I just assumed that was his personality. Boy, was I wrong! He is a character. He is not shy at all, and he definitely does not seem serious. He is so friendly to everyone, and he loves to give people fives and hugs. He loves to make us laugh, and has quite an energetic personality. He definitely has a stubborn streak, and can be quite opinionated at times. For example, he sometimes does not want me to look at him, and he will say, "No Mama see Reives." He also sometimes doesn't want me to sing along to songs, so he will say "No Mama sing!" It is quite funny. Reives is such a sweet big brother. He wants to kiss Brooks every morning and every night before he goes to bed. He loves to bring Brooks toys and make him laugh. He is quite rough with Brooks, usually just playing around, so Brooks is constantly getting hurt :( I guess that is how boys are!

Of course, I am one of those mothers who ~~knows~~ thinks that her child is highly intelligent. But, he does know and can correctly identify all 8 of the basic colors plus gray and pink. He can count to 10 by himself and to 20 with some help. He also can identify all of his letters A to G and then alot of others also. He is starting to enjoy playing with play dough, crayons, and paint. He loves books and music. His favorite songs are "Old McDonald" and some of the lullaby praise songs we sing to him. His favorite toys are cars, trucks, trains, and anything that he can push around. In the past few weeks, he has started to play by himself more and doesn't follow me around everywhere. He has also started pretending, which is so much fun to watch. About 2 weeks ago, he was eating a saltine. He bit it a certain way, held it up, and said, "Made a Backhoe." (He is very into tractors, and calls most of them backhoes.) Since then, he mainly pretends with his food, but he likes to bite his food into certain things and tell us what they are. We have dinosaurs, trucks, trains, birds, and lots of other animals.

The main thing that has been going on since Reives turned 2 is his speech. He is blowing us away with how much more he is talking and communicating. He is learning new words all of the time and is stringing more and more words together. It is so fun to hear his funny phrases and perceptions on things. He is copying alot of what we say still, and his pronunciation is becoming clearer and clearer.

Reives is such a sweet, helpful, and caring child (most of the time), but he is definitely ALL BOY! He is busy, busy, busy. The other night Trey commented, "I don't think Reives is ever still." But, I will say, that it makes me feel good that his Sunday School teachers, and BSF leaders tell me that he has never told them "no," and that he has the best manners and is so compliant! At least he is that way for other people, even thought that is not always the case at home!! (From teaching, I have learned that kids usually behave better for others.)

10 Months

Little B is 10 months old!!! Less than 2 months, and we will have a one year old...sniff...sniff :( They just grow too fast! Brooks is growing, exploring, and crawling like a champ! He is pulling up and has "cruised" just a few times. Reives was almost walking at this age, but I am actually glad that little Brooks is taking his time with the walking :) He is quite the talker/grunter/screecher/squealer. Everyone comments on his grunts and noises. Sometimes, people think he is fussing, but I just explain those are "his noises." They crack us up. The main thing that has been going on with Brooks is teeth. He has gotten 4 teeth in the last couple of weeks, and he now has 8! I am glad that he has so many teeth, however, since this boy LOVES to eat. I was just telling a friend today that he has never refused a single type of food and has never acted full. He just keeps on going and wanting more!

Other things going on:

-he is still babbling alot of "mamama" and "daddydaddy". Yesterday, Reives said "yeyow" (yellow), and Brooks piped up with "yeyow" and then laughed :)

-Brooks just LOVES Reives. He loves when Reives interacts with him and just laughs and laughs.

-I am starting to refer to Brooks as a bulldozer. He just crawls everywhere and over everything....even tall things. He always finds a way to crawl over it, even if it means landing on his head. He just keeps on bulldozing through.

-One of Brooks's favorite pastimes is to pull up on the train table and destroy the tracks and trains. Reives always says, "Uh oh, Brooksy do that."

-He is eating about half baby food and half table food now. I think cheese may be his favorite, but he also likes, peas, chicken, cheerios, puffs, and fruit.

-Brooks now waves and claps. He is also becoming quite the little dancer/bouncer. It is too cute!

-Brooks still takes 2 naps and sleeps from 7:30 to 7:30 or so at night.

It is so much fun for us to see Brooks's personality developing. He is still a Mama's boy, and is definitely getting more upset if everyone walks out the room and leaves him. But, all in all, he is as sweet and happy as can be! He is such a blessing to all of us!

Roadtrip

One of my best friends from college is having a baby in March!! Lauren lives in New Orleans, so I do not get to see her often as I'd like, but her parents live in Atlanta. So, since she was going to be in the ATL and having a baby shower, I got a wild hair that I would brave a roadtrip by myself with the two little guys to celebrate Baby Dunaway! I have always been one for a little adventure, so me and the boys took the first weekend in January to visit friends in Atlanta. I was, of course, ~~very~~ nervous about the trip. Would they scream in the car? I mean, I can't just let go of the wheel and turn around to give them their sippy cups and paci when they drop them. Would I freak out driving through Atlanta with screaming babies in the backseat, while trying to look at directions? Since we would all 3 be sleeping in the same room both nights, would they scream when going to bed and keep each other up? Would I get even a wink of sleep? And, of course, how in the world would they behave at this nice baby shower? Would Reives whine and cling to my leg asking me to "carry you?" while was having to hold Brooks to keep him from crawling around and getting into everything? I just tried to push the questions aside and embrace the big adventure ahead!!!

Well, all I can say is that I am so thankful for such an amazing weekend! I mean seriously, it could not have gone any better! I didn't hear the first whimper in the car until we were 5 minutes from our destination (thanks to a good nap from Brooks and a Mickey Mouse DVD for Reives.) Nobody cried at night and all of us slept all night long until 7:30 both mornings. No one cried on the way home in the car. And the boys did wonderful at the baby shower! Needless to say, I worry too much!!!

So, the boys did great, but I also got to spend some great, quality time with three of my dearest friends!!! We got to Atlanta at lunchtime on Friday and spent the afternoon eating lunch and playing at a park with Lauren. We spent Friday night at Lauren's parent's house, and we went to the shower Saturday morning. Then, we spent Saturday afternoon and night with my dear college friend, Kathryn and her family (husband, Bryan and 2 year old, Miller). Then we also got to see my sweet friend, Jackie on Sunday before heading back. All of these friends were bridesmaids in our wedding and have played such a special part in my life. And not to mention, all three of my dear friends are expecting!!! Yay for babies!

New Year's Eve

We have spent several of the past New Years Eves with our friends Scott and Ann Coleman who live on St. Simons. They have a little boy named Daniel who is 5 months older than Brooks. Our New Years Eve looked a little different this year with all of the babies, but we had such a great time and so did they!!

Love these silly boys! Hopefully, they will always be great buddies!!!

Christmas 2012

Christmas 2012 was so much fun! Brooks was mainly into playing with wrapping paper and tissue paper. Reives was mainly into "Happy Birthday Jesus," cake, and his cookie from Santa. (That was all he wanted for Christmas!)
